Classic Car Storage For The Off-Season

As the classic car season draws to a close, with highlights like the Goodwood Revival and the Concours of Elegance behind us, it’s that time of year when owners start to assess the weather and think about storing their cars for the winter.  After all the excitement of rallies, races and concours d’elegance, a summer of sunny car events is fading into autumn and the opportunities for driving your classic car are about to rapidly decrease.

There’s an average of only 20 sunny days to look forward to in the UK from September to February. That’s fewer than four per month, and who knows how many of those will fall on a day that you’re actually able to enjoy the car. Better instead to ensure that your classic car isn’t exposed to cold weather, salty roads and damp conditions over the next few months.

Over time all that cold and damp weather can lead to rust, paint damage, and deterioration of rubber seals. Or, particularly in classics where electrical systems aren’t well insulated, you can get moisture in the wiring and battery depletion and all sorts of other issues. It’s amazing how much of a toll one brutal winter can take on your classic car.

Which is part of the reason we established SHY Automotive as the ultimate car storage solution. Storing your cars with us will help to protect against falling leaves and their acidic residue, polluted rain that can strip your car’s chrome, cold, wet conditions that can crack leather, seep into gaskets or play havoc with your electronics. It’s an investment into the long-term health of your car and a hedge against hefty repair bills that come with bodywork or rewiring.

Our facility provides the perfect conditions for storing classic cars, and comes with the additional benefits ofa dedicated storage bay with individual electrical supply and fire suppression. There’s no chance of batteries going dead, accidental damage, or extreme fluctuations in temperature. You can choose to store one car with us or your whole collection, and rest easy for the winter months knowing that we’ve got24/7 security, cameras covering every inch of the vault and fingerprint scanners that ensure no unauthorised access.

It means that come February, when the classic car season kicks off again with Retromobile in Paris, your car will be ready to go, looking just as good as the day you left it with us. And, on the off chance that you do get one of those rare sunny days in the winter, we can have your car ready and waiting for you in no time.
